Installing hashr (and antivirus)
hashr is a real miner, so your browser, macOS, or antivirus may warn you the first time you install it. That's expected for mining software — it's classified as a “potentially unwanted application” because mining canbe misused. hashr only ever runs with your consent, on hardware you own. Here's how to get past each prompt:
- 1.Open the .dmg and drag hashr to Applications.
- 2.Open hashr once — macOS will say it can't verify it. Close that dialog.
- 3.System Settings → Privacy & Security → scroll down → Open Anyway.
- 1.Run the installer. On the SmartScreen prompt: More info → Run anyway.
- 2.If antivirus flags it, choose Allow / Keep — it's safe.
- 3.If it keeps re-flagging, add hashr as an exclusion.
You'll only approve once. These prompts appear because hashr isn't yet notarized by Apple or signed by Microsoft — every release is virus-scanned before it ships. Still unsure? Email hello@hashr.io.
